Long-Range Weather Forecast

The Shalampax weather office has released its long-range forecast covering the next three months. It is predicting that conditions will vary from bad to worse, with intermittent horrendousness. (See: Shalampax Climate.)

Precipitation is expected to be normal, meaning that, if we didn’t have perfect drainage into the ocean, we’d be continuously inundated. Fortunately, we do have perfect drainage. Even so, expect a sheet of an inch or two of rainwater to cover the ground most of the time.

The one bright spot is the temperature. It is also forecast be normal. In other words, it should be hot, but barely survivable.

This is the same forecast that the weather office put out three months ago. In fact, it’s the same three-month forecast that has been published every quarter since the weather office was established.

Unfortunately, the weather office is the only institution in Shalampax that has a well-deserved reputation for accuracy.

Considering the weather here, it’s a wonder why we haven’t all killed ourselves. I’m sure that would make an excellent Ph.D. thesis topic for some ambitious psychology doctoral candidate. Of course, that will never happen because no one here takes education seriously enough. And we don’t allow scholars, or anyone else for that matter, to come here. We will, however, accept their large research grants.

Have a nice day. Yeah, like that’s going to happen.

OMG, you sound just like the television weather people – they are wrong so much of the time that they speak in generalities and expect us to consider it a forecast.
This is moving on being the hottest summer in San Antonio history – you’d think we lived in the desert southwest.

@Mamaflo: It’s not so much generalities as the weather here in Shalampax is constantly catastrophic. Good luck with the heat wave.

Weather forecasting I understand is not an exact science. However statistically they should do much better than they are doing.
In my previous businesses if I did it so badly I would not keep my job.
The met are putting up a lot of excuses which winds me and a lot of other people up.
In my opinion it is wasted money and we should spend it on more useful and productive uses.
The presenters smile on the tele but people on holiday in the uk, especially with their kids in tow, certainly are not.

@Steve: Our weather forecasters have a perfect record. They always predict that we are going to have thoroughly miserable weather and we always have thoroughly miserable weather.

Besides, you suggest that, “In my opinion it is wasted money and we should spend it on more useful and productive uses.” In Shalampax we don’t know the meaning of the words “useful” and “productive”. We’ve been meaning to look them up, but we could never be bothered.
