National Democracy Month
The government of Shalampax has only just gotten around to announcing that January is National Democracy Month in Shalampax. This designation was made to honor the freedoms, human rights, peace, order, and good government that flows to the people in democratic countries.
Companies in Shalampax are not required to give employees time off to celebrate National Democracy Month. However, in honor of democratic principles, the Parliament of Shalampax has been shut down since the beginning of January and will remain shut down for the remainder of the month. Parliamentarians are expected to celebrate our democratic freedoms in a manner of their choosing during this time.
When asked if the closing of parliament would hamper the effective execution of the affairs of state, Manexposinghimself, Prime Minister of Shalampax, said, “No, not really. We don’t actually do anything when parliament is sitting anyway. In fact, parliament is quite an inconvenience when it comes to running the country.”
Happy National Democracy Month, Shalampax.

Right on! Yet another excuse to do nothing.
@MadMadMargo: As if we needed an excuse.
Parliaments (and the US Congress) often pose the greatest impediments to effective governance of a country.
Living in Washington DC, it is a great relief when congress goes on a recess and leaves town altogther thus I’m in total agreement with Manexposinghimself’s opinion.
@David: I think you may be on to something. Following your logic, the way to achieve perfect governance is to close down Congress (and parliaments) permanently. You should start a political movement with that as your objective. I would start one, but I’m a Shalampaxian, a willingness to exert effort is not in my genes.
