New Geography Texts

The Shalampax school board has decided to splurge on new geography textbooks. It was felt that the current texts were getting a little, to say the least, long in the tooth. Some of the information in them is somewhat outdated and considered to be no longer valid in light of newer discoveries.

The ultimate impetus to invest in new geography texts came when someone suggested to the school board that it is now apparently almost the unanimous consensus among earth scientists that the earth is, indeed, not flat. Assuming that the experts are right about this, our geography teachers, and the textbooks they are using, have been teaching our students the wrong information all of this time.

Who knew? It looks pretty flat to me.

Are they also buying a globe? That might help them visualize a round planet – assuming the know what ’round’ means.

@David: A globe? You mean that people have known about this round earth concept long enough to develop such a thing? Why doesn’t anyone tell me anything?

I remember hearing that if the Earth was the size of a pool ball it would be smoother than that pool ball.
I remember hearing that but I don’t remember why the information would ever be useful in any way…
There, random almost related trivia for ya !

@Keith: Thanks. I’d never heard that before. There’s just one thing I don’t understand about that. Where would you find a pool cue big enough to play pool with the earth?
