Pets at Work

Yesterday was another exciting day in workplaces across Shalampax. Friday, February 26, 2010 was National Bring Your Pet to Work Day here. Pets are illegal in Shalampax, and that is one of the few laws that is obeyed, so everyone took the day off work because they didn’t have a pet to bring in with them.

Pet Prohibition Reconsidered

The Government of Shalampax is seriously considering altering the law that currently prohibits the keeping of all pets in Shalampax. The government is not expected to scrap the law completely, but it may revise the regulations to include an exemption for cats.

The thinking is that, unlike dogs, cats are generally fairly quiet and use litter boxes rather than crapping and pissing in any open area. Considering our cramped quarters, dogs would be unacceptable.

Scurrying Little Friends

I would like to remind all Shalampaxians of the strict policy against keeping pets in Shalampax’s building. Unfortunately, this rule is currently being broken and some people are spoiling things for the rest of us.

This situation came about purely by accident. It seems that the anthropologists that we had for dinner back in early April did not arrive alone. We are now infested with cockroaches.

Some Shalampaxians have been keeping the cockroaches as pets. They—the Shalampaxians, not the cockroaches—have been trying, mostly unsuccessfully, to train the cockroaches to do tricks such as roll over, shake hands, fetch sticks and play dead.
